My ears are still recovering from the blistering loud and intense set that Alaric presented at last week’s show at the Elbo Room in San Francisco. One song after another of feedback soaked guitar and pounding drums! There was quite a crowd to come watch the band at the upstairs performance stage as Alaric’s popularity has grown steadily over the past year.
Here’s the first clip I’ve uploaded from this show.
The highly anticipated visit by Sun O))) to the SF Bay Area starts on Saturday, August 8th at the Independent Club in San Francisco. The next evening KFJC and (((folkYEAH))) will be presenting their show at the historic (and spooky) Brookdale lodge in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Gitane Demone & The Crystelles at last Sunday’s early ‘BBQ show’. Opening the evening was Seattle’s Sioux City Pete & The Beggars
A great evening with L’Anonyme Collective’s beautiful dancing and the fun Luv’n Rockets and Darkwave (80s covers) bands.
Here’s a late post of video from Death Rock Dive Bar’s May 8th show. This clip is from the mesmerizing set from Portland’s, Magick Daggers. Unfortunately I showed up late and missed one of my early DRBB faves, Swann Danger – I’ll have to find them somewhere else as a ‘make-up’ gig.
Last month’s Funeris at Orbis Nex was treated by another amazing performance by Portland’s Soriah. Featuring Soriah’s Tuvan vocal technique joined by two other musicians and two ritual performers. This video taken with the Canon G9, has the gain boosted heavily in order to make this dark performance visible.
The Final Rites of Orbis Nex In Equinoctial Aftermath
Last night was the final rites of Orbis Nex, the beloved East Bay gathering place for music, imbibing, and dark theater. It will be missed but memories will linger for a while longer…

As a big fan of LPD, I see them at least once a year. Ka-Spel and gang showed up at Café Du Nord (their usual SF venue) to grace us once again to a terrific show.
Note: The band Absence as since been renamed Alaric.
Absence debuted at The Stork’s, Death Rock Dive Bar. What great performance it was! Absence delivered on the promise of the show’s title, a loud harmonic guitar soaked landscape that reminded me a bit of Killing Joke and late 80s darkwave.
Headlining on the bill was Swann Danger, a great sounding trio from Oakland that’s reminiscent of early Siouxsie and Lydia Lunch.
