I haven’t posted in over six years but have re-activated the site to share a piece of Oakland’s proud and loud history of darkwave/goth/hard rock that I used to go witness, primarily at the Stork Club on Telegraph Ave. For the site’s relaunch, I recoded all the videos so the work natively in HTML5 without crummy Flash plugins and are also compatible with iOS/portable devices.
What a great year of Death Rock Dive Bar at The Stork Club! Tonight are two cover bands, one a Love and Rockets Tribute band, Luv’n Rockets and 80’s cover band Darkwave. Also featuring dance troupe L’Anonyme Collective plus, we have our favorite DJs, Mina and Death Boy. See ya there!
Here’s a late post of video from Death Rock Dive Bar’s May 8th show. This clip is from the mesmerizing set from Portland’s, Magick Daggers. Unfortunately I showed up late and missed one of my early DRBB faves, Swann Danger – I’ll have to find them somewhere else as a ‘make-up’ gig.
Last month’s Funeris at Orbis Nex was treated by another amazing performance by Portland’s Soriah. Featuring Soriah’s Tuvan vocal technique joined by two other musicians and two ritual performers. This video taken with the Canon G9, has the gain boosted heavily in order to make this dark performance visible.
Note: The band Absence as since been renamed Alaric.

Absence debuted at The Stork’s, Death Rock Dive Bar. What great performance it was! Absence delivered on the promise of the show’s title, a loud harmonic guitar soaked landscape that reminded me a bit of Killing Joke and late 80s darkwave.
Headlining on the bill was Swann Danger, a great sounding trio from Oakland that’s reminiscent of early Siouxsie and Lydia Lunch.
